Learning Outcomes and Application The unit applies to skills associated with loading beams onto looms for weaving and attaching yarn using a knotting machine, manual knotting processes or a tying stand. Knotting is undertaken as part of the weaving or tufting loom process.Work may be conducted in small to large scale enterprises and may involve individual and team activities.The application of this unit is according to OHS practices of the enterprise and workplace practices, which may include:requirements prescribed by legislation, awards, agreements and conditions of employmentstandard operating procedureswork instructionsoral, written and visual communicationquality practices, including responsibility for maintenance of own work quality and contribution to quality improvement of team or section outputhousekeepingtasks related to environmental protection, waste disposal, pollution control, and recyclingThis unit requires the application of skills associated with planning and organising for the safe and efficient knotting of yarn. Element: Set up and load beams
  • Production specifications are checked to identify requirements for yarn quantity, quality and colour.
  • Yarn batch and pattern is checked to ensure conformity to specifications.
  • Non-conforming materials are reported.
  • Beams are loaded onto weaving machine.
       
Element: Knot yarn for weaving
  • Yarn is prepared for knotting using leases.
  • Yarn is knotted using knotting machine or manual knotting techniques.
  • Broken yarn is identified and repaired.
       
Element: Test knots
  • Knots are checked to ensure adequate strength.
  • Knots are tested during initial weaving loom operation.
  • Broken yarn is identified.
  • Yarn is re-tied using weavers knot or alternative techniques.
  • Machine or product faults are reported or addressed.
       
Element: Complete operations
  • Empty beams are despatched.
  • Cleaning of area and disposal of waste is completed to ensure work environment is maintained in a safe and productive manner.
